Meet Our
Champions of Justice
Justice At Last will be honoring individuals and organizations from across California who have been breaking down barriers to justice and expanding equity to vulnerable populations.
Our Champions of Justice represent the diverse efforts and partnerships—including prosecutors, government agencies, pro bono attorneys, corporations, and community advocates—who have worked with Justice At Last over the past decade to help trafficking survivors achieve justice on their own terms.
The recipients of our 2025 Champions of Justice Awards include: California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Nixon Peabody, Ruth Silver Taube, Emily Sims, Marti MacGibbon, and Box.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta
Since 2021, Rob Bonta has served as California’s 34th Attorney General and has been a fierce advocate for justice and fairness throughout the State on behalf of all crime victims, including survivors of human trafficking. Whether working as the Deputy City Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, serving in the State’s Assembly for the 18 th District, and now as the Attorney General, he has focused his career on helping right historic wrongs and fighting for people who have been harmed.

Marti MacGibbon
Marti MacGibbon is one of Justice At Last’s founding Advisors, and she has been supporting our mission and efforts to be trauma-informed and survivor-centered since 2016. Marti is an internationally known author and an expert on trauma resolution and addiction. She’s a humorous, inspirational speaker and a mental health professional who holds five professional certifications in addiction treatment. Few speakers have a personal comeback story as riveting and inspirational as Marti’s. Marti employed evidence-based strategies to transform her life and shares them to encourage and energize listeners to create positive change in every area of their lives.

Ruth Silver Taube
Ruth Silver Taube was one of Justice At Last’s founding Board Members and has always been a staunch advocate of our mission of representing and fighting for the rights of trafficked survivors. Ruth is also the Supervising Attorney of the Worker's Rights Practice at the Katherine & George Alexander Community School of Law and an Adjunct Professor at the law school. Additionally, Ruth is Legal Services Provider Co-Chair of the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking and the Supervising Attorney of the Santa Clara County Office of Labor Standards Legal Advice Line.

Box
Box cares about impact and strengthens partnerships for creating social change. They find a domain where their clients are powering real positive impact to make that impact even bigger. Since 2018, the Box Team has been supporting Justice At Last’s systems to ensure that safety, security, and privacy are prioritized on behalf of the trafficking survivors served. Box Team members have also directly uplifted Justice At Last’s work by sharing their expertise and volunteering their time, including Rob Moore and Natasha Keswani.

Nixon Peabody and Jennifer A. Kuenster
Across Nixon Peabody, their pro bono work focuses on serving vulnerable individuals and families in our surrounding communities and advancing important causes nationwide. Since 2017, Jennifer A. Kuenster and the Nixon Peabody Team have been partnering with Justice At Last and other nonprofits to represent survivors of trafficking, helping them erase their criminal records, hold the legal system accountable for arresting the crime victims who should have been provided services instead of punishment, and helping them move forward on their healing pathway.

Emily Sims
Emily Sims was one of Justice At Last’s founding Board members and has served as a consultant and case manager and continues to be a passionate advocate for the rights of trafficked survivors and our mission. Emily was a member of community-based and academic research teams in the US and Canada, and an instructor for UC Davis and Sonoma State University. Emily currently works as a Medical Care Manager for folx living with HIV/AIDS and is most dedicated to providing trauma-informed and culturally safe services to survivors of all forms of labor exploitation and members of the LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
