This summer the Justice At Last Team of Volunteers, Staff and Board members will be doing community outreach at farmers’ markets throughout the Greater Bay Area to create awareness about our work and impact within the communities we serve.
On August 22nd from 9AM to 1PM we will be tabling at the De Anza College Farmers’ Market; if you are in the area, please stop by, introduce yourself, and let us know why you support the work we do in the community.
We are delighted to be partnering with the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association (PCFMA) and to help promote the local farmers and vendors in our community. PCFMA currently manages over 30 farmers’ markets, which makes them the oldest and largest farmers’ market association on the West Coast!
If you would like our Team members to table at an upcoming event your agency or organization is hosting, please reach out to us at info@justiceatlast.org
Did you know …?
Many farmers’ markets like San Mateo College accept CalFresh (EBT) benefits, making it easier to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and other eligible foods.
Here's how it works:
Visit the market's information booth or EBT station. Look for signs directing you to the market's EBT or information table.
Swipe your EBT card. Tell the staff how much of your CalFresh benefits you'd like to use.
Receive market tokens or scrip. Instead of using your EBT card at each vendor, you'll receive tokens or scrip to spend throughout the market.
Shop with participating vendors. Use your tokens to purchase eligible food items from approved farmers and vendors.
Save unused tokens. If you don't spend all your tokens, you may be able to use them at a future visit. Some markets may also allow you to return unused tokens for a credit back to your EBT card.
Using your CalFresh benefits at a farmers' market is a great way to access fresh, local food while supporting local farmers. If you're unsure whether a market accepts EBT, stop by the information booth or check with the market before you visit.
