As the World Cup comes to a close on Sunday, we’re reminded of what communities can accomplish when the world comes together.

The Bay Area has proudly welcomed fans from around the globe, and our community members are gearing up to celebrate today. But while the action on the field captures our attention, the work behind the scenes deserves just as much focus.

Every major event depends on thousands of workers. While many experience fair working conditions, labor shortages, subcontracting, and temporary employment can increase the risk of exploitation.

Research has found no consistent evidence that major sporting events increase human trafficking. Instead, vulnerability stems from longstanding challenges like housing instability, labor exploitation, economic inequality, immigration-related barriers, and limited access to services.

Preventing trafficking starts long before kickoff. It requires protecting workers’ rights, strengthening communities, and ensuring survivors have access to justice.

At Justice At Last, we’re proud to provide free legal services to survivors of labor trafficking and advocate for workplaces where every worker is treated with dignity and respect. Your support makes this work possible.

Join us for our upcoming Volunteer Orientation and Introduction to Human Trafficking

If you are looking for an opportunity where you can contribute to a greater cause, your talent and skills will be recognized, and you will be constantly challenged to grow, then volunteer today!

Justice At Last is hosting our next “Volunteer Orientation and Introduction to Human Trafficking” training on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM Pacific Time.

The training is a prerequisite for all volunteers, including our Board members, and will provide you with an introduction to what human trafficking is and the work we do throughout the Greater Bay Area. We will also address the different volunteer opportunities that help support our work on behalf of trafficked persons. If you are currently volunteering for us but have not yet attended this introduction training, we ask that you plan to attend for the first 60 minutes of the event.
