Dear Community, What a different world since our last newsletter! Like many other nonprofits, we face new and significant challenges, including threatened funding and harmful rhetoric and erasure tactics targeting the most vulnerable populations we serve. In response, we must redouble our efforts to support our clients and continue to advocate for policies and legislation to protect survivors of human trafficking. We must also demand and ensure that the enforcement of the rule of law is at the forefront of our work for all survivors of trafficking. And, to make a real impact, your support is more crucial than ever. Today, our clients feel even more vulnerable and fearful in coming forward to seek help and engage with the courts. The values that drive our work—compassion, equity, and justice—and standing up for what is right, are even more important now. We recognize how critical embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is to fulfilling our mission of ensuring those who have been labor- and/or sex-trafficked achieve justice on their terms. We remain steadfast in our commitment to treating ALL survivors of human trafficking with fairness, dignity, and respect, all while providing free representation and services that are survivor-centered, culturally sensitive, linguistically, appropriate, trauma-informed, and rights-based – no matter our clients’ age, sex, gender identity, abilities and equity needs, nationality, or the type of trafficking. We urge you to remain engaged in the fight for a better world. Your continued support, whether through donations, volunteering, sharing our posts on social media and spreading awareness, helps us with our vital mission. Together, we can and do make a difference, even in these challenging times.
