Happy summer!

Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration. We couldn't achieve our mission without you and we hope you enjoy learning what we have been up to in this newsletter and the impact of your support.

We are delighted to share our July updates with you. This will be the first in a series of summer newsletters highlighting our Staff, Summer Law Clerks & Interns, Volunteers, Advisors and Board Members and all their accomplishments. We are excited to celebrate these dedicated, passionate champions of justice who, like you, help support our efforts to empower trafficked persons seek and achieve justice on their own terms.

The past few months we have been busy out & about throughout the San Francisco Bay Area providing pro bono trainings at law firms like Wilson Sonsini and service provider trainings for the Contra Costa County Family Justice Center and Family Justice Institute on the impacts of forced criminality on trafficking survivors.

From January to June 2024, we have supported and served 157 clients by representing, advocating and enforcing their crime victims’ rights in our community in the Bay Area.

Samantha Cano and Diana Quirarte

Samantha Cano is a rising 2L at the University of San Francisco School of Law

“I am passionate about non-profit advocacy and public interest work, specifically in domestic violence and anti-human trafficking. In my time as a clerk at Justice At Last, I am learning about what trauma-informed lawyering and client advocacy looks like, and I am excited to gain more experience during my clerkship.” Samantha Cano, Summer Law Clerk

Diana Quirarte is a rising 2L at the University of San Francisco School of Law.

“I am really passionate about civil litigation and international human law and hope to continue working for non profits or firms that deal in those cases. I joined Justice At Last because I’ve always wanted to contribute to serve people who aren't able to afford an attorney on their own. I know many times it's minority communities who don't have access to legal aid and being a first generation law student I really want to serve those communities in any way possible, especially in hard situations such as human trafficking.” Diana Quirarte, Summer Law Clerk

Meet the Author, Marti MacGibbon

Please join us on August 24th in-person at the Community Center in Foster City to hear from the fabulous Marti MacGibbon, a Professional Humorous Inspirational Speaker, Nationally Award-Winning Author, and Justice At Last Advisor.

This is an opportunity to learn from Marti about her life experiences including being trafficked and beyond. She will read an excerpt from her book titled “Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up from Rock Bottom” and there will be a chance to ask any questions.
