In a time when access to justice is more critical than ever, our Founder and CEO, Rose Mukhar, will share why organizations like Justice At Last must continue fighting for fairness in our courtrooms and throughout our communities. February Is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month!

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, and a critical time to recognize that abusive relationships can be a gateway to exploitation. Teens experiencing dating violence are at significantly higher risk of being targeted for both sex and labor trafficking, as traffickers often prey on vulnerability, isolation, and unmet emotional or financial needs. Raising awareness, strengthening prevention efforts, and equipping young people with education and support are essential steps to protecting them from abuse and exploitation in all its forms.

In 2025, 13% of Justice At Last’s clients were under the age of 24 years. 1 in 3 teens in the United States will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they even enter adulthood (Santa Clara County Public Health). About 1 in 12 teenagers experience physical dating violence and about 1 in 10 teenagers experience sexual dating violence in the United States in a given year (Center for Disease Control) Teens who experienced dating violence are more likely to experience depression and substance abuse (Center for Disease Control).

The mission of Rape Trauma Services, RTS, is to eliminate all forms of violence, with a special focus on sexual assault and abuse throughout San Mateo County. They facilitate healing and the prevention of violence through the provision of counseling, advocacy, and education. They also provides services to address the multiple healing needs of child survivors of sexual trauma. |

CORA is the only agency in San Mateo County solely dedicated to helping those affected by intimate partner abuse. From counseling, to emergency housing, to legal assistance, their services are designed to provide safety, support, and healing. |

|
|
Dream Youth Clinic, serving the Bay Area, provides no-cost, youth-led health services and youth health groups, utilizing a reproductive justice framework, that center black girls, black youth, youth of color, and gender-expansive youth. |
|
|
|
|
|
Tri-Valley Haven provides shelter, immediate safety, respite, and supportive services including counseling for victims of abuse. The Haven educates Tri-Valley middle and high school students on critically important violence prevention topics in a safe and age appropriate manner. |

|
|
Alameda Health System has a hospital and clinic-based program called the Sexual Assault Response and Recovery Team (SARRT). They provide comprehensive support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, aged 14 and above, including their families. |

|
|
|
|
The San José Youth Empowerment Alliance (SJYEA) is the City of San José’s youth violence reduction strategy, with resources for both Child Sex Trafficking, Dating Violence Prevention, and Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention. |

|
SafeChat, was founded as a collaborative project of domestic violence organizations in Silicon Valley, Safe Chat Silicon Valley (SafeChatSV) is a confidential online chat platform for people that have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence or intimate partner violence to connect with an advocate for support. |

|
|
|
Community Solutions, serving Santa Clara County, they provide a variety of support programs for children, youth, and young adults who are struggling with mental health issues, experiencing behavioral challenges, involved with the juvenile justice system, part of the foster care system, or are in need of crisis intervention services and support |

|
|
La Casa De Las Madres, respond to calls for help from domestic violence victims, of all ages, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They give survivors the tools to transform their lives. We seek to prevent future violence by educating the community and by redefining public perceptions about domestic violence. |

|
|
|
Community Violence Solutions serves Contra Costa and Marin Counties, and is dedicated to working in partnership with the community to end sexual assault and family violence through prevention, crisis services, and treatment. |
|
|
|
|
|
STAND! For Families Free of Violence provides Victim Services in Contra Costa County, including support lines for Community Violence Solutions, Victims of Crime, and 24/7 Crisis Support. |
|
|
|
MISSSEY is a Bay Area-Wide initiative focused on stopping exploitation before it begins, creating pathways out, and standing for survivors as they rebuild on their own terms. They provide safe, trauma-informed support and crisis hotlines. |
|
|
|
|
|
The California Youth Crisis Line (CYCL) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as a statewide emergency response system for youth (ages 12-24) and families in crisis. Professional trained staff and volunteer counselors answer around the clock with crisis intervention counseling and resource referrals. |
